Chaguaramas

Chaguaramas is a locality on the northwestern tip of the island of Trinidad, part of the Diego Martín region of Trinidad and Tobago. It occupies a strategic coastal position, bounded to the north and west by the Caribbean Sea and to the south by the Gulf of Paria, giving it a distinctive peninsular character shaped by water on multiple sides. The locality's name carries regional political weight: it gave its name to the Treaty of Chaguaramas, the 1973 agreement that established Caricom, the Caribbean Community and Common Market. Earlier, Chaguaramas had served as the capital of the short-lived West Indies Federation, leaving a legacy that still defines the area's identity in Caribbean history. Beyond its political resonance, Chaguaramas is recognized for its coastal scenery and its long-running role as a recreational and infrastructural node on northwestern Trinidad. The surrounding landscape blends sea-facing terrain with the forested ridges of the Northern Range foothills, and in 1961 a national park was established at Chaguaramas, reinforcing its protected natural character.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
