Džbány-Žebrák Nature Park
Džbány-Žebrák Nature Park is a protected landscape area in the Central Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic, lying in the Benešov District between the towns of Votice, Jankov, Líšno, and Tomice. Encompassing roughly 53 square kilometers of countryside, the park preserves a primarily forested and meadow-rich terrain with a near-submontane character, giving it a more elevated, wooded feel than much of the surrounding lowland.
The protected area is defined by two prominent hills, Džbány and Žebrák, which give the park its name, and by an interconnected network of small river sources, ponds, meadows with scattered woodland shelterbelts, and quiet rural settlements. Beyond its visual character, the park is valued for its ecological richness, including wet meadow species, orchids, carnivorous plants, and a diverse roster of birds, amphibians, and mammals.
Designated in 1996 by the municipal office of Benešov, the nature park reflects a regional effort to safeguard a landscape that combines traditional rural land use with significant natural value. It remains an example of a moderately sized Bohemian protected landscape that integrates forest, water, and meadow habitats within a single conservation framework.
