Location: Kunene Region, Namibia. Recorded area: 22,270 km².

Vast Namibian savanna reserves built around one of Africa's largest salt pans, sheltering iconic wildlife including the world's largest black rhino population
Etosha National Park
Etosha National Park is a sprawling protected area in northwestern Namibia that ranks among the largest national parks on the African continent. The park was originally proclaimed as a game reserve in March 1907 during German colonial rule, making it one of Africa's oldest protected areas. Its defining feature is the enormous Etosha pan, a vast salt flat spanning approximately 4,760 square kilometers that dominates the park's geography and gives the reserve its distinctive character. The park encompasses a diverse landscape of savanna woodlands, thorn bush plains, and dolomite hills, supporting an remarkable concentration of wildlife despite the harsh desert environment. Etosha holds particular global significance as the single-most important sanctuary for the endangered black rhinoceros, and it provides refuge for hundreds of species of mammals, birds, and reptiles within its boundaries.
