Flyndersø

Flyndersø is a large freshwater lake in the northwestern part of central Jutland, Denmark, lying at the southern fringe of the Salling peninsula. It is regarded as Denmark's largest heath lake (hedesø), a lake formed in a landscape historically dominated by heathland rather than by forest, and it sits within a broader mosaic of heaths and conifer plantations that give the area a distinctly open, low-lying character. The lake straddles the boundary between Holstebro Municipality and Skive Municipality and lies close to the cultural landscape of Hjerl Hede, one of Denmark's best-known open-air museums. Flyndersø is naturally divided into a northern and a southern basin by a shallow constriction known as Snævringen, and the wider lake system feeds ultimately into Karup Å and onward to Skive Fjord. Beyond its scenic and recreational role, Flyndersø carries real conservation significance. The lake, together with its surrounding heaths and plantations, has long been protected and forms part of a designated Natura 2000 area covering roughly 1,200 hectares of heath, woodland, and open water.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
