Jerup Hede, Råbjerg og Tolshave Mose

Jerup Hede, Råbjerg og Tolshave Mose is a designated Natura 2000 nature area in the eastern part of the Vendsyssel region in northernmost Denmark. It lies in Frederikshavn Municipality, between the coastal towns of Ålbæk and Frederikshavn, with the village of Jerup as the nearest settlement, and sits just south of Ålbæk Klitplantage. The landscape is unusually rich for Denmark, combining coastal dune habitats, dry and wet heaths, lakes, mires and small patches of forest into one continuous protected complex. It contains the country's largest area of the distinctive 'rimmer og dobber' ridge-and-pool landscape, formed in raised bog terrain. The area is also of major conservation importance for rare species. It hosts Denmark's most important population of the marsh fritillary butterfly, supports the northernmost Danish population of the protected maj-gøgeurt orchid, and provides breeding habitat for several bird species that justify its designation as a bird protection area.
