Reserva de producción de fauna Manglares El Salado

Manglares El Salado is a mangrove-dominated protected area on the Ecuadorian coast, situated in the Guayas Province and forming part of the country's national system of protected areas. The reserve lies northwest of the Gulf of Guayaquil estuary and southwest of Guayaquil, near the road that connects the city with the Pacific coast resort corridor toward Salinas. Its defining feature is an extensive mangrove forest system shaped by tidal channels and salty flats, where mangrove fringe vegetation dominates much of the surface area. The reserve protects remnant patches of tropical dry forest alongside its mangroves and three named estuaries, supporting a mix of crab, fish, crustacean, bird, mammal, and reptile populations linked to the coastal-estuarine environment. The protected status of Manglares El Salado reflects Ecuador's broader recognition of mangrove ecosystems as critical habitat along the Gulf of Guayaquil. At the same time, the reserve sits within an increasingly pressured landscape, bordered by growing residential areas, quarries, and roads that restrict wildlife movement.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
