Mühlbachtal von Bergen-Enkheim

Mühlbachtal von Bergen-Enkheim is a small nature reserve located in the eastern Frankfurt district of Bergen-Enkheim, in the German state of Hesse. Covering just 3.28 hectares, it is the smallest protected area of its kind within the city of Frankfurt am Main. The reserve sits on the steep southern slope of the Berger Rücken, a ridge that forms a distinctive landscape feature in the eastern part of the city. Despite its modest size, the valley protects a botanically significant site. It contains the only known population of great horsetail (Equisetum telmateia) in the entire Rhine-Main region, a species considered a relic of former floodplain forests. The vegetation of the valley is shaped by wet meadows, traditional orchards, and semi-dry grassland, creating a rich mosaic of habitats within a very compact area. The valley takes its name from the Enkheimer Mühlbach, historically one of the shortest streams in Frankfurt, that once powered the 18th-century Enkheimer Mühle watermill. Designated as a nature reserve in 1986, Mühlbachtal represents an important local refuge for biodiversity in an otherwise heavily urbanized metropolitan setting.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
