Oberwaldsee von Dietesheim

Oberwaldsee von Dietesheim is a small nature reserve (Naturschutzgebiet) in the district of Offenbach in the German state of Hesse, set on the Steinheim Terrace within the broad Untermain lowlands southeast of Frankfurt. The roughly 34-hectare site combines damp woodland, open meadows, and a chain of lakes that originated as abandoned basalt quarries, giving the area a varied microtopography unusual for the otherwise flat southern Hessian landscape. Because of its geological history, its mix of habitats, and its visual character, the reserve is regarded as locally distinctive within the southern Rhine-Main region. Its designation as a nature reserve in 1989 was driven by the need to protect endangered plant and animal species, particularly breeding birds and amphibians, and to counteract past disturbances from unauthorized recreation and from the afforestation of open sandy dry-grassland. The protected area functions today as both a refuge for heat-loving butterflies, wild bees, and waterbirds, and as one of several small but ecologically important stepping-stone reserves in the densely populated Rhine-Main metropolitan region.

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
