Ozark, St. Francis National Forest

Ozark–St. Francis National Forest is a large United States National Forest in Arkansas, administered by the U.S. Forest Service. Although managed as a single administrative unit, it is composed of two geographically distinct forests: the much larger Ozark National Forest in the Ozark Mountains of northern Arkansas, and the smaller St. Francis National Forest on Crowley's Ridge in the eastern part of the state along the Mississippi River. The forest system protects a mosaic of hardwood and pine landscapes, old-growth stands, designated wilderness, scenic river corridors, and the only National Forest System shoreline on the Mississippi River. It supports more than 500 species of trees and woody plants, six federally listed endangered species, and over 1,150,000 acres of public land used for hiking, camping, horseback riding, canoeing, fishing, and scenic driving. Ozark–St. Francis is notable for blending mountainous terrain, karst features, and river-bottom lands within a single Arkansas forest management footprint, while also preserving a strong recreational legacy built largely by Depression-era work programs such as the Civilian Conservation Corps and Works Progress Administration.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
