Réserve naturelle régionale de la ferme de la Chauffetière

The Réserve naturelle régionale de la ferme de la Chauffetière is a small regional nature reserve in western France, located in the Pays de la Loire region within the Maine-et-Loire department. Covering roughly 30 hectares on the hilly terrain south of Ancenis, it preserves a traditional bocage farm characteristic of the Mauges countryside. The reserve protects a mosaic of wet meadows, dry slopes, cultivated plateaus, and hedgerow networks that reflect centuries of mixed agricultural land use in the Loire Valley. Created in December 2008 through a classification by the Regional Council, the reserve is unusual in being administered directly by the landowner rather than by a public agency. This private stewardship reflects the personal initiative of the current owner, who began the classification process in 2005 after acquiring the site in 1990. The reserve contributes to broader conservation networks along the Loire and its tributaries, linking its hedgerow and stream habitats to larger ecological corridors. Ecologically, the site stands out for the coexistence of contrasting microhabitats within a compact area: humid valleys along the Robinets stream, dry calcareous slopes, and cultivated uplands. This habitat diversity supports a surprisingly rich flora and fauna, including orchids, amphibians, woodland bats, owls, and rare saproxylic insects. It functions as both a working farm and a living classroom for agroecology and hedgerow landscape conservation.

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
