Réserve naturelle régionale du bocage des Antonins

The Réserve naturelle régionale du bocage des Antonins is a small French regional nature reserve located in the Deux-Sèvres department, within the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. Classified in 2015, it covers approximately 22.59 hectares of traditional bocage countryside typical of the Gâtine armoricaine, a rural area historically shaped by mixed farming, hedgerows, ponds, and small woodlands. Despite its modest size, the reserve concentrates a remarkable variety of habitats: an ancient pond known as the étang des Forges, meadows used for mowing and pasture, old hedgerows with pollarded trees, and pockets of woodland. This habitat diversity supports a rich flora and fauna, including several species of regional and national conservation concern, from aquatic plants and rare amphibians to woodland birds and uncommon invertebrates. The reserve is not primarily a tourism site; public access is restricted and the area is managed as a conservation and educational space by the local naturalist association Deux-Sèvres Nature Environnement. Its identity is shaped by centuries of historical land use by the Antonine monastic order and later by the botanist René Verriet de Litardière, giving the site both cultural depth and strong natural heritage value.

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
