Sayram-Ugam National Park is a mountainous protected area in the western Tian Shan Mountains of southern Kazakhstan, spanning the border region with Uzbekistan. The park encompasses dramatic alpine landscapes, juniper-clad slopes, and some of the most ecologically significant fruit and nut tree forests in Central Asia. Established in 2006-2007, the park covers approximately 149,000 hectares across three districts of South Kazakhstan Region and protects seven distinct natural altitude zones ranging from mountain steppe through forested slopes to alpine and glaciated peaks. The area is notable for its extraordinary plant diversity, with over 1,600 documented plant species including 35 endemics, and for its wild relatives of cultivated fruit trees such as apple, pear, walnut, plum, and grape. The park forms part of a transboundary conservation complex that includes Ugam-Chatkal National Park in Uzbekistan and Aksu-Zhabagly Nature Reserve in Kazakhstan, making it a key area for regional biodiversity protection.
