Templer Park

Templer Park is a 1,214-hectare forest reserve in the Gombak District of Selangor, Malaysia, just north of Kuala Lumpur. Set along the old Kuala Lumpur to Rawang road, it forms one of the largest and most accessible patches of mature lowland and hill forest remaining near the capital, providing a green refuge for city dwellers, naturalists, and weekend visitors. The reserve is named after Sir Gerald Templer, the British High Commissioner in Malaya in the early 1950s. Its landscape combines multi-tiered waterfalls, cool jungle streams flowing down from the hills, mossy forest floors, and a dense canopy of mature trees laced with ferns and lianas. Trails, picnic spots, and campsites allow visitors to experience the forest at close range. Beyond its role as a recreational escape, Templer Park holds real ecological and scientific value. It is the type locality for the rare Malaysian spine-jawed snake, supports a surviving population of serow, and shelters a notable trapdoor spider species in its limestone caves. Despite these qualities, the reserve has faced ongoing pressure from residential and road development on its edges.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
