Váňův kámen

Váňův kámen is a small protected natural monument (přírodní památka) in the Moravian-Silesian Region of the Czech Republic, located near the town of Kopřivnice in the Nový Jičín District. The site protects a prominent limestone outcrop that rises as a near-vertical pyramid roughly 20 meters above the surrounding terrain, making it one of the more visually distinctive rock formations in the otherwise gentle Podbeskydská pahorkatina (Sub-Beskydy Hills). The protected area covers just 0.78 hectares on the southeastern slope of Bílá hora, set within a small wooded grove that is almost half covered by young oak-hornbeam forest. Beyond its geological value, the rock also has cultural and historical importance: the surrounding area is a documented archaeological site, and the stone itself bears a memorial plaque commemorating 17th-century peasant uprisings on the former Hukvaldy bishop's estate. Váňův kámen is valued both as a geological monument, preserving exposures of Jurassic Štramberk limestone rich in coral reef fossils, and as a local landmark with archaeological and historical associations. It is also widely used by climbers as a practice wall along the Lašská nature trail.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
