Vlčice Natural Monument

Vlčice is a small natural monument in the northern Czech Republic, situated on the northern slope of Vlčice hill in the Šluknov Hills, northwest of the village of Staré Křečany in the Děčín District of the Ústecký Region. The protected area covers a compact fragment of an old acidophilic beech forest and is recognized primarily for the ecological value of its mature and decaying trees. The site is administered by the Regional Authority of the Ústecký Region and was formally designated as a natural monument in February 2022. Its significance lies in the presence of nationally rare forest birds such as the stock dove, boreal owl, and red-breasted flycatcher, as well as a rich community of saproxylic beetles that depend on the large volume of deadwood retained in the stand. Although small in size, Vlčice represents an unusually well-preserved example of central European beech woodland that has been allowed to develop with minimal direct human interference. It serves both as a refuge for forest-interior species and as an important reference site for understanding the natural dynamics of acidophilic beech forests in the Bohemian uplands.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
