Compare protected geography across a reclaimed coastal wetland

Trace nearby protected landscapes from Voslapper Groden-Süd across Lower Saxony's North Sea wetlands

Voslapper Groden-Süd occupies flat reclaimed land beside the Inner Jade, where flooded reedbeds, shallow ponds, channels, scrub, and pioneer vegetation developed between embankments and industry. The nearby map compares protected records by separation and direction while keeping designation, country context, mapped position, and coastal identity distinct.

Voslapper Groden-Süd

Voslapper Groden-Süd is a designated nature reserve (Naturschutzgebiet) on the North Sea coast of Lower Saxony, in the northwestern part of the city of Wilhelmshaven. Covering 388 hectares of low-lying reclaimed land just east of the Voslapp district, the protected area is dominated by extensively flooded reedbeds, shallow ponds, and successional wetland vegetation shaped by the tides and the surrounding industrial landscape. Although the broader Groden was originally created in the 1970s through land reclamation with the explicit goal of attracting industry, large parts were never built on. Over time these unused areas developed naturally into a mosaic of wetland habitats that turned out to be exceptionally valuable for birds. Today the reserve is recognized as one of the most important breeding, passage, and wintering sites for protected bird species in Lower Saxony. The site sits in close proximity to major infrastructures, including the Wilhelmshaven oil refinery and the deep-water JadeWeserPort container terminal, making it a notable example of valuable nature conservation embedded within a heavily industrialized coastal setting.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
