Alerce Andino National Park

Alerce Andino National Park is a protected area in Chile's Los Lagos Region, situated within the Andes mountain range approximately 46 kilometers northeast of Puerto Montt. The park encompasses roughly 393 square kilometers of rugged terrain characterized by dense temperate rainforests, dramatic mountain peaks, and an extensive network of more than fifty lakes and natural ponds. The park's eastern and southern boundaries are defined by the Reloncaví Estuary, while its western edge meets the Reloncaví Sound, and to the north lies Chapo Lake. This protected area forms part of the Southern Andes Temperate Rainforest Biosphere Reserve, recognized for its exceptional ecological significance and biodiversity. The park is managed by Chile's National Forestry Corporation (CONAF) and was established in November 1982 to protect one of the most significant remaining stands of Fitzroya cupressoides forest in the world.
