Ba Bể National Park
Ba Bể National Park is a protected area in Bắc Kạn Province in the Northeast region of Vietnam, approximately 240 kilometers northwest of Hanoi. The park was established in 1992 and covers an area of 10,048 hectares, designated as a Ramsar Wetland in 2011. The park's central feature is Ba Bể Lake, the largest natural freshwater lake in Vietnam and the country's highest lake at approximately 150 meters above sea level. The lake stretches about 8 kilometers in a north-south direction and never dries, even during dry seasons, due to its karst limestone hydrology. The name Ba Bể means "Three Lakes" in the local Tay language, referring to the lake's three connected sections: Pe Leng, Pe Lu, and Pe Lam. The protected area encompasses limestone and highland evergreen forests, creating a distinctive karst landscape that supports remarkable biodiversity.
