Bataan National Park

Bataan National Park is a protected area in the Philippines located in the mountainous interior of Bataan province in the Central Luzon Region. The park encompasses a significant portion of the Bataan Peninsula, spanning across seven municipalities and cities including Hermosa, Orani, Samal, Abucay, Balanga, Bagac, and Morong. Established originally in 1945 under Proclamation No. 24 with an initial area of 31,000 hectares, the park was reduced to its present size of 23,688 hectares in 1987 and is now wholly contained within Bataan province. The park features rugged tropical terrain with significant geological features including rivers, springs, and waterfalls, with Mount Natib at its heart featuring a distinctive 6 by 7 kilometer forested acorn-shaped caldera. Designated as an Important Bird Area by BirdLife International, the park supports diverse ecosystems and serves as a critical watershed for the surrounding region.
