Mszar Nature Reserve

Mszar Nature Reserve is a small peatland reserve situated inside the Las Miejski, the municipal forest of Olsztyn in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship of northeastern Poland. Covering only a few hectares, the reserve protects a former lake basin filled with a thick deposit of peat, rising slightly above the waters of nearby Jezioro Długie. The reserve was officially designated on 30 December 1953 as a strict peatland nature reserve, although the site itself had already enjoyed protection since 1907. Its core purpose is the preservation of distinctive bog plant communities and the rare, protected species that depend on this specialized wetland environment. Because of its location within a city-managed forest and its compact size, Mszar represents an unusual case of a strictly protected, ecologically sensitive peatland ecosystem embedded directly within an urban green space.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
