Bingenheimer Ried

Bingenheimer Ried is a small but ecologically important nature reserve in the Wetterau region of Hesse, Germany. It lies in the floodplain of the Horloff river west of the village of Bingenheim, part of the municipality of Echzell in the Wetteraukreis district. The protected area covers roughly 85 hectares of lowland mire, wet meadows, and shallow flood waters, and forms the core of the larger Auenverbund Wetterau landscape protection network. Its ecological value rests on a delicate mix of seasonal flooding, permanent moisture, and traditional grazing. These conditions support breeding populations of rare marsh birds, a rich community of around forty dragonfly species, amphibians such as the natterjack toad and crested newt, and seasonal gatherings of migratory waders. Although locally small, the reserve is regarded as one of the most significant bird areas in Hesse. The reserve is fully integrated into European conservation frameworks, sitting within the Natura 2000 network and forming part of the Fauna-Flora-Habitat site known as Grünlandgebiete in der Wetterau. Its combination of wetland meadow, open water, and grazing management makes it a representative example of lowland floodplain conservation in central Germany.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
