Chiloé National Park

Chiloé National Park is a protected area located on the western coast of Chiloé Island in Chile's Los Lagos Region. Established in 1983, the park encompasses approximately 431 square kilometers of diverse landscapes including coastal dunes, temperate rainforests, swamps, and peat bogs. The park is situated primarily in the foothills of the Chilean Coastal Range, known locally as the Cordillera del Piuchén, with a small portion on Metalqui islet. This protected area preserves one of the finest examples of the globally significant Valdivia temperate rain forest ecosystem, supporting remarkable biodiversity both on land and in the surrounding marine waters. The park is particularly notable for its population of pygmy blue whales, which have made the Gulf of Corcovado and Chiloé waters internationally famous as one of the few known feeding grounds for these endangered marine mammals.
