Isle Haute

Isle Haute is a small, rugged island in the Bay of Fundy, lying about eight kilometers off Cape Chignecto in Cumberland County, Nova Scotia, Canada. Slightly less than a square kilometer in area, the island rises in steep basalt cliffs that define its entire shoreline and give it a striking, isolated profile within one of the world's most dynamic marine environments. The island is of considerable ecological and geological interest. Its Jurassic-age volcanic bedrock, dramatic coastal landforms, and exceptionally high tidal range create habitats that support hundreds of plant taxa, dozens of migratory bird species, and notable marine wildlife including seals. In recognition of these values, Isle Haute was proposed as a National Wildlife Area by Environment and Climate Change Canada and formally designated in January 2025. Beyond its natural significance, the island carries deep human history. Evidence of Mi'kmaq presence dates back roughly eleven thousand years, and the island was documented by Samuel de Champlain in 1604, making it both a cultural heritage site and a modern conservation priority in Atlantic Canada.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
