Juwangsan National Park

Juwangsan National Park is a protected mountain landscape in southeastern South Korea, spanning Cheongsong County and Yeongdeok County in North Gyeongsang Province. Established in 1976 as the twelfth national park in the country, the park covers approximately 107 square kilometers within the Taebaek mountain range. The park derives its name from a traditional legend in which King Gyeongdeok of Silla sought refuge in these mountains during a period of political turmoil, and local villagers are said to have fed the exiled monarch rice cakes shaped like the peaks that resembled royal crowns. The landscape features dramatic ridgelines, steep valleys, cascading waterfalls, and dense forest cover that supports remarkable biodiversity. The park is home to 88 documented plant species and 924 animal species, making it an important ecological repository within the region.
