Kolkheti National Park

Kolkheti National Park is a protected wetland area located in the Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti and Guria regions of western Georgia, situated along the Black Sea coast in the historical region of Colchis. The park encompasses a vast coastal plain between the mouths of the Tikori and Supsa rivers, spanning the districts of Zugdidi, Khobi, Lanchkhuti, Senaki, and Abasha. Established between 1998 and 1999 as part of Georgia's Integrated Coastal Management Project, the park covers approximately 28,940 hectares of terrestrial land with an additional 15,751 hectares of protected wetlands. The park's wetlands of Central Kolkheti were designated as a Ramsar Site of International Importance in 1997, recognizing their exceptional ecological value. In 2021, Kolkheti became part of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Colchic Rainforests and Wetlands site, acknowledging its unique forests, wetlands, and significant populations of threatened species.
