Morzyk Nature Reserve

Morzyk Nature Reserve is a small forest reserve in southern Poland, located on the southwestern slopes of a hill near the village of Grodziec in the Silesian Voivodeship. It lies within the Pogórze Śląskie, the Silesian Foothills, where rolling terrain, ravines, and small ponds shape a landscape that transitions between the lowlands and the Carpathian foothills. The reserve was established in 1996 to protect a surviving fragment of natural forest representing two rare communities: a deciduous oak-lime-ash oak-hornbeam woodland (grąd) and a Carpathian fertile beech forest (żyzna buczyna karpacka). These mixed stands, including monumental old trees, give the reserve strong ecological and aesthetic value despite its compact ten-hectare footprint. Morzyk is managed under active protection (ochrona czynna), and it remains an important local reference point for understanding the original forest character of the Silesian Foothills before widespread agricultural and settlement transformation of the region.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
