Mszar Pogorzelski Nature Reserve

Mszar Pogorzelski is a small peatland nature reserve located in the eastern part of the town of Otwock in the Masovian Voivodeship of central eastern Poland. The reserve lies within the boundaries of the Mazowiecki Park Krajobrazowy (Mazovian Landscape Park), a broader protected landscape that surrounds it. The reserve was established in 1987 by order of the Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources to protect a relatively intact peatland complex. It covers an area of about 35 hectares, making it one of the smaller but ecologically focused protected sites in the region. The defining feature of Mszar Pogorzelski is its combination of raised and transitional bog habitats set among surrounding sand dunes, with characteristic bog flora and fauna developed on waterlogged peat soils. This setting reflects the post glacial sandy landscape of the Garwolińska Plain and gives the reserve a quietly distinctive wetland character unusual so close to an urban area like Otwock.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
