Sherwood Nature Reserve

Sherwood Nature Reserve is a protected nature reserve located near Woolgoolga on the north coast of New South Wales, Australia. It sits within a broader landscape that includes remnants of subtropical rainforest, particularly along Woolgoolga Creek, and is managed by the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service. The reserve is notable for safeguarding one of the more northerly pockets of subtropical rainforest in New South Wales, a vegetation type that has been heavily reduced across the east coast since European settlement. The reserve protects significant stands of mature rainforest as well as areas of regrowth following historic logging, and serves as habitat for a wide range of native plants and animals. It preserves a regionally important example of how fragmented rainforest patches can retain high biological value, including rare invertebrates and threatened vertebrate species. Together with surrounding state forests and coastal landscapes, Sherwood forms part of the broader natural heritage of the Woolgoolga area. Beyond its ecological value, the reserve has cultural and historical significance tied to the early timber and agricultural history of the region. Former forestry operations, banana plantations, and later hardwood plantations have all shaped the landscape that visitors see today, leaving layers of regrowth forest and plantation history as part of the reserve's identity.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
