Sonsfeldsches Bruch, Hagener Meer und Düne

Sonsfeldsches Bruch, Hagener Meer und Düne is a roughly 48 hectare nature reserve in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, located east of the town of Rees near the border with the neighboring Kreis Wesel. It lies within the Haldern district of Rees in Kreis Kleve, one of the areas where the lower Rhine landscape still preserves traces of its former floodplain dynamics. The reserve combines three strikingly different habitats within a compact area: a former branch of the Rhine now isolated as the Hagener Meer oxbow lake, surrounding wetland and marsh forest, and an unusual inland sand dune remnant in the northern part of the protected area. This juxtaposition of aquatic, boggy, and sandy dry environments gives the site a remarkable ecological range for its modest size. Designated in the early 1990s and reorganized in the regional landscape plan in 2010, the area is managed for habitat and species conservation under the German nature protection framework. Its protected wetland vegetation, water plant communities, dune flora, and birdlife make it a notable piece of the broader Lower Rhine conservation landscape.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
