Wertheim Protected Landscape

Wertheim Protected Landscape is a designated protected landscape area in the Main-Tauber district of Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Covering roughly 39 square kilometers across parts of the towns of Freudenberg, Külsheim, and Wertheim, together with the municipality of Werbach, it safeguards a characteristic Main-Franconian sandstone landscape in the northwestern corner of the state. The area was formally designated on 18 December 1979 and is one of the oldest protected landscapes in the Main-Tauber district. Its core purpose is to preserve the traditional appearance of the regional countryside, protect it from deterioration, and maintain it as both a natural living environment and a space for quiet outdoor recreation. The landscape belongs naturally to the Marktheidenfelder Platte, a gently rolling sandstone plateau that gives the region its distinct rural character. Although modest in international profile, the protected area plays an important local role in conserving a historically shaped agricultural and forest landscape shaped by Lower Triassic red sandstone. It is administered by the Regierungspräsidium Stuttgart and registered in the World Database on Protected Areas as site 321868.

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
