It sits at the Abegweit Passage, the narrowest stretch of water separating New Brunswick from Prince Edward Island, and is crossed by the Confederation Bridge. It is part of Canada's national network of 143 National Wildlife Areas managed under strict federal protection by the Canadian Wildlife Service.
