Cuenca Alimentadora del Distrito Nacional de Riego 01 Pabellón

The Cuenca Alimentadora del Distrito Nacional de Riego 01 Pabellón is a protected natural area in central Mexico that safeguards a portion of the Sierra Fría mountain range across the states of Aguascalientes and Zacatecas. It forms part of the southeastern Sierra Madre Occidental where that great volcanic range meets the Mexican Plateau, and it covers the eastern flank of the Sierra Fría drained by the Río Verde and its tributaries. Designated as a natural resources protection area in 2002, the reserve spans roughly 977 square kilometers in two separate blocks. Its purpose extends beyond biodiversity conservation: it also protects the forested watershed that feeds one of Mexico's key national irrigation districts, making it both an ecological refuge and a critical water-supply landscape. The protected area preserves a continuous gradient from dry Central Mexican matorral at lower elevations up through pine–oak forests and montane grasslands on the higher slopes. This diversity of vegetation supports a rich community of mammals, raptors, and endemic plant species, while also sustaining traditional land uses such as regulated camping, hiking, and permitted sport hunting.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
