Dębina Nature Reserve

Dębina Nature Reserve is a small forest reserve in the Greater Poland Voivodeship, in western Poland, set on the sandy-gravelly upper terrace of the Wełna River west of the town of Wągrowiec. Established in 1957, it protects one of the oldest surviving tracts of natural oak-hornbeam forest, known as a grąd, in this part of the country. Despite its compact size, the reserve holds a strikingly rich biodiversity. Roughly ninety percent of its area is occupied by grąd woodland that includes more than ninety monumental oaks, some around three centuries old. Beyond the core oak-hornbeam stands, eleven additional plant communities are present, including three natural forest types, and the reserve has recorded an exceptionally diverse flora of vascular plants, bryophytes, lichens, fungi, and algae. The site also supports a notable heronry of grey herons and harbours one of the rarest fungal finds in Poland. As a representative example of natural lowland forest preserved within an intensively used agricultural and forestry landscape, Dębina serves as an important reference site for understanding the original character of Wielkopolska woodlands.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
