Dominguez Canyon Wilderness

Dominguez Canyon Wilderness is a federal wilderness area in western Colorado, managed by the Bureau of Land Management and located southeast of Grand Junction across Mesa and Delta counties. Designated in 2009, it covers roughly 66,280 acres and represents the largest BLM roadless area in the state of Colorado. The wilderness takes its character from the northeastern flank of the Uncompahgre Plateau, where two major canyon systems have been carved by perennial and intermittent creeks into sandstone terrain. Within these corridors the landscape shifts from elevated pinyon-juniper woodlands and sagebrush mesa tops to deep, sheltered canyons with waterfalls, pools, and riparian vegetation. The area is notable for combining relatively easy accessibility from a regional population center with a strong sense of remoteness once inside the canyons. It forms the core wilderness component of the broader Dominguez-Escalante National Conservation Area, giving it both statutory wilderness protections and a wider landscape-scale conservation context.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
