Indian Pass Wilderness

Indian Pass Wilderness is a federally designated wilderness area in the southeastern corner of California, administered by the Bureau of Land Management. It sits within the southern Chocolate Mountains, just west of the Colorado River and the Lower Colorado River Valley, and it borders the Imperial National Wildlife Refuge to the east and Picacho Peak Wilderness to the south. The area captures a stretch of raw Sonoran Desert terrain where arid mountain slopes drain toward the river through washes and steep canyons. Because of its position between river lowlands and desert peaks, the wilderness preserves a transition zone where desert uplands meet riparian habitat along one of the most ecologically important corridors in the American Southwest.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
