Kleine und Mittelleber

Kleine und Mittelleber is a small nature reserve (Naturschutzgebiet) in the state of Brandenburg in eastern Germany, located on the municipal territory of the town of Teupitz in the district of Dahme-Spreewald. Covering roughly 66 hectares, the protected area preserves a landscape shaped by the Weichselian glaciation, where meltwater carved a channel that gradually silted up and developed into a mosaic of mires, swamp forest and bog woodland. The reserve is also classified as a European Fauna-Flora-Habitat (FFH) site, reflecting its importance for habitat types and species protected under the EU Habitats Directive. Its ecological character is defined by mire woodland fringed with pine, transitional and floating mat bogs in the wetter depressions, and the partially degraded remains of alder swamp forest affected by past changes to the local water balance. The area carries a layered human history as well. During the years of the German division, much of the surrounding municipal land lay within a restricted military zone tied to the nearby Wünsdorf training area, which limited access and shaped how the landscape evolved in the twentieth century. Officially placed under protection on 9 June 1995, the reserve takes its name from two former lakes, the Kleine Leber and the Mittlere Leber, which have since silted up and disappeared as open water bodies.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
