Kootenay National Park

Kootenay National Park is a protected area in southeastern British Columbia that forms part of the Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks World Heritage Site. The park encompasses 1,406 square kilometres of rugged mountain terrain, river valleys, and mineral springs along a 94-kilometre stretch of Highway 93. Established in 1920 through the Banff-Windermere Agreement, the park was created when the federal government agreed to complete a road through the Rocky Mountains in exchange for land to be used for park purposes. The park stretches from the village of Radium Hot Springs at its southwestern entrance to the Vermilion Pass at the Alberta border, where it meets Banff National Park along the Continental Divide. Visitors are drawn to the park's dramatic mountain scenery, the Radium Hot Springs facility, the Paint Pots mineral springs, and access to the Rockwall trail network.
