Lago Puelo National Park

Lago Puelo National Park is a protected natural area in the northwestern region of Chubut Province, Argentina, within the Patagonia region of South America. The park was established in 1971 to safeguard a distinctive landscape where the Patagonian forest meets the Andean steppe, centered around the scenic Puelo Lake. The park covers approximately 276 square kilometers of mountainous terrain shaped by glacial activity, featuring numerous lakes, rivers, and forests that create a visually striking environment. What makes this park particularly notable is its unique ecological character; the low elevation of the lake's shores (around 200 meters above sea level) and the valley's trans-Andean connection allow the park to host elements of the Valdivian temperate rain forest, a biome more commonly found in Chile. This botanical connection gives the park a flora that differs significantly from other Argentine Andean-Patagonian protected areas.
