Laguna Blanca National Park

Laguna Blanca National Park is a protected wetland area in the western Neuquén Province of Argentina, established in 1940 around a shallow lagoon that serves as a critical habitat for migratory waterfowl in the heart of the Patagonian steppe. The park covers 112.5 square kilometers of semi-arid terrain characterized by rolling hills, rugged gorges, and the central lagoon whose name translates to White Lagoon, referencing its distinctive pale waters. This Ramsar-designated wetland represents one of the most important bird sanctuary sites in northern Patagonia, providing nesting and feeding grounds for substantial populations of aquatic birds in an otherwise arid landscape. The park's establishment was driven specifically by the need to protect the resident population of black-necked swans, a species long associated with this waterbody and now serving as the park's ecological emblem.
