Meandry Ploučnice u Mimoně

Meandry Ploučnice u Mimoně is a Czech natural monument located in the Liberecký kraj region, in the district of Česká Lípa, between the villages of Boreček and Ploužnice in the Ralsko area. The protected site covers roughly 49 hectares of one of the most naturally preserved reaches of the Ploučnice River, where the watercourse continues to meander freely without artificial regulation. Its core significance lies in this combination of an unregulated, meandering river and adjoining wetland habitats that depend on natural flood dynamics. Within the site, the Ploučnice develops a series of so-called meander lakes, calm, deep and often partially blind loops cut off from the main current. Together with the lower course of the tributary Ploužnický potok, these features create a mosaic of slow-moving water, saturated banks, and floodplain vegetation that supports plant and animal communities tied to undisturbed river systems. The monument was designated in 2014 and sits within the larger European Important Site (evropsky významná lokalita) known as Horní Ploučnice, aligning its protection with Natura 2000 objectives for the upper Ploučnice basin. Despite its modest size, the area is recognized as an ecologically meaningful refuge for several rare aquatic and wetland species, including specialized dragonflies, butterflies, otters, and migratory fish.

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
