Meandry Staré Odry

Meandry Staré Odry is a small natural monument in the Moravian-Silesian Region of the Czech Republic, situated in the lowlands near Jeseník nad Odrou and Mankovice in the Nový Jičín district. The protected area preserves a surviving fragment of the original meandering course of the Odra River, including its abandoned loops, quiet oxbow pools, and the riparian vegetation that has grown up around them. The landscape is shaped by water. Slow curving channels, flooded meadows, and soft alluvial ground define the terrain, while bands of trees line the old riverbanks. The combination of still water, damp meadows, and shaded shoreline creates a habitat mosaic that supports amphibians, wetland plants, and rare invertebrates. Although compact, the area is ecologically valuable within the broader Poodří protected landscape, because it captures one of the last visible traces of how the Odra once flowed before its channel was straightened and regulated. Its protection status, declared in 1999, reflects the importance of preserving near-natural river dynamics and their associated species.

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
