Moose Mountain Creek National Wildlife Area

Moose Mountain Creek National Wildlife Area is a small federally protected reserve in southeastern Saskatchewan, Canada. It lies in the valley of Moose Mountain Creek, about 38 kilometers north of the town of Stoughton, within the Rural Municipality of Golden West No. 95. The reserve covers roughly 163 hectares and is administered by the Canadian Wildlife Service. Its landscape combines four main habitat types: freshwater marshes, cultivated prairie, native mixed-grass prairie, and trembling aspen groves. This mosaic of wetland and dryland habitats supports a diverse community of breeding birds, amphibians, and large mammals such as moose, white-tailed deer, and beaver. The area functions as an important refuge for native prairie flora and as habitat for several sensitive bird species tied to prairie wetlands. The site was established on 12 May 2025 when it was formally designated as a national wildlife area, replacing the former Prairie National Wildlife Area, of which it had been Unit 27. Its designation reflects a broader federal effort to consolidate Canada's network of prairie wildlife reserves around the most ecologically valuable parcels.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
