North Luangwa National Park

North Luangwa National Park is a remote national park in northern Zambia, situated in the Luangwa River valley of Muchinga Province. Covering approximately 4,636 square kilometers, it is the northernmost of the three national parks that line the Luangwa River. The park was established as a game reserve in 1938 and officially designated as a national park in 1972. Its landscape ranges from the floodplains and riverine forests along the eastern boundary formed by the Luangwa River to the woodlands and escarpment foothills of the Muchinga Escarpment in the west. The Mwaleshi River flows eastward through the center of the park, while the southern portion is maintained as a strict wilderness zone. Despite its ecological significance and connectivity to other protected areas in the valley, North Luangwa has received considerably less development investment and visitor attention than South Luangwa National Park, preserving a wilder and less frequented character.
