Numinbah Nature Reserve

Numinbah Nature Reserve is a small but ecologically significant protected nature reserve in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales, in eastern Australia. It lies in the Border Ranges just south of the Queensland town of Springbrook, where a steep volcanic escarpment rises above one thousand metres and marks part of the state border between New South Wales and Queensland. The reserve protects a substantial block of subtropical and cool temperate rainforest that descends from rhyolite cliffs to creek lines fed by Pat Smiths Creek, Crystal Creek, and Couchy Creek. It is best known for a small stand of Antarctic beech (Nothofagus moorei) growing near the northern edge of the species' natural range, including ancient, multi-stemmed trees with massive above-ground root systems. Numinbah sits within the Mount Warning/Tweed caldera landscape, a UNESCO World Heritage component of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia, and overlaps with the Scenic Rim Important Bird Area recognized by BirdLife International. The reserve is managed as a strict nature reserve, intended to be free of interference from humans, domestic animals, and feral pests.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
