Polanský les

Polanský les is a small nature reserve located in the northern outskirts of Ostrava, in the Svinov district near the Polanka nad Odrou municipal area of the Czech Republic. It lies on the left bank of the Oder River, at the northern end of the protected landscape area known as CHKO Poodří, and is administered by the Czech Agency for Nature Conservation and Landscape Protection through the Poodří Protected Landscape Area administration. The reserve protects a fragment of hard floodplain forest, a so-called lužní les, that has survived from the original riverine woodlands along the Oder. Its main conservation focus is a population of snowdrops (Galanthus nivalis), regarded as a botanical relic within the Poodří region. The site is also valued for its rich mix of broadleaf trees and a notable community of bats, birds, and forest-floor species. Geologically, the reserve straddles the boundary between the Bohemian Massif and the Outer Western Carpathians, giving it an unusual geological transitional setting. Together, these features make Polanský les a compact but ecologically meaningful protected fragment within the broader Ostrava urban landscape.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
