Reserva natural El Corbalán

Reserva natural El Corbalán is a privately protected natural area in the Gran Chaco region of southeastern Bolivia. It lies in the Gran Chaco Province of Tarija Department, near the town of Villamontes and along the border zone with Paraguay. The reserve sits within the Chaco Boreal biogeographic province, one of South America's most distinctive dry-forest ecosystems. Its landscape is characterized by seasonally dry forests, thorny scrub, and open plains typical of the Chaco plain. El Corbalán is especially significant for the conservation of threatened Chaco wildlife, including species such as the Chacoan peccary, the broad-snouted caiman subspecies known as the Chaco caiman, and the giant anteater. Owned and managed by the NGO Protección del Medio Ambiente Tarija (PROMETA), the reserve was created in 1996 and legally formalized in 2001.
