Sagarmatha National Park

Sagarmatha National Park is a protected alpine wilderness in the Himalayas of eastern Nepal, established in 1976 and covering 1,148 square kilometers in the Solukhumbu District. The park encompasses dramatic elevation gradients from 2,845 meters at Monjo to the summit of Mount Everest at 8,848 meters, making it one of the world's highest-elevation national parks. In 1979, Sagarmatha became Nepal's first national park to be inscribed as a Natural World Heritage Site by UNESCO, recognizing its exceptional natural value. The park forms part of the Sacred Himalayan Landscape and shares its northern border with Tibet's Qomolangma National Nature Preserve, while the Dudh Kosi river marks its southern boundary. The region is home to approximately 3,500 Sherpa people who have inhabited villages along the main trekking routes for generations.
