Vallée du Pressoir Regional Nature Reserve

The Vallée du Pressoir Regional Nature Reserve is a small French regional nature reserve located in the Deux-Sèvres department, within the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. Covering around 56 hectares along the communes of Thouars and Saint-Jacques-de-Thouars, the reserve protects a narrow limestone valley whose semi-arid and acidic pioneer grasslands are considered a rare habitat type in mainland France. The valley combines ecological interest with cultural and geological heritage. The Pommiers cascade has been a registered natural site since 1932, the valley has been a local leisure and walking destination since the nineteenth century, and fossil-rich limestone beds form an outcrop known as the "Champ d'étoiles." Classified as a regional nature reserve on 17 March 2025, the site is now the formal conservation anchor for a long-standing landscape that had already been managed as a departmental sensitive natural area since 2013.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
