Vrch Káčov

Vrch Káčov is a small protected natural monument in the Central Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic, located directly beside the village of Sychrov in the Mladá Boleslav district. Declared in 1953, the site safeguards a compact hill of volcanic origin, capped by a prominent rock outcrop known as a skalní suk, together with its immediate surroundings in the northwestern part of the hill. The protected area is notable for its geological character rather than its size. The rock formation displays features of contact metamorphism, where original volcanic rocks were altered by heat and pressure, producing rock types such as porcelanite. This concentration of uncommon mineralogical features in such a small landscape setting gives the site a focused scientific and educational value. Although the protected zone covers only a couple of hectares, Vrch Káčov sits within a broader natural context typical of the Jičínská pahorkatina hill region. The mixture of rocky substrate, dry grassland vegetation, and warm lowland climate supports a diverse community of plants, insects, and birds, making the site a representative example of small-scale volcanic-feature conservation in Bohemia.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
