Breitwiese bei Steinfurth und Oppershofen

Breitwiese bei Steinfurth und Oppershofen is a small nature reserve (Naturschutzgebiet) located in the Wetteraukreis district of Hesse, Germany. It lies between the Bad Nauheim district of Steinfurth and the Rockenberg district of Oppershofen, situated between the L 3134 state road and the historic Butzbach-Licher Eisenbahn railway alignment. The River Wetter flows through the area, and a millrace from Oppershofen's Nonnenmühle borders it to the north. The reserve consists of wet meadows and fallow land that together form an important habitat mosaic in an otherwise intensively farmed landscape. It was designated as a protected nature reserve by official decree on 20 November 1990, and it sits within both the European Wetterau bird protection area and the larger Auenverbund Wetterau landscape protection area. Its ecological character is shaped by open grassland, standing and flowing water, riparian edges, and a long tradition of conservation grazing by hardy cattle. Although small in size, Breitwiese has regional importance for amphibians, breeding and migratory birds, and insects, and it reflects the broader Wetterau tradition of protecting floodplain meadows as refuges for species that have retreated from modern agricultural land.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
